How Often Should You Get a Lash Fill? The 14 and 21 Day Rule

Lash extensions refreshed during a fill appointment

Lash extensions are not a one time service. Because extensions shed with your natural lashes, your set needs a refresh every few weeks to keep that full look. That refresh is called a fill, or maintenance.

The timing of your fill affects both how your lashes look and how much you pay. This guide explains what happens during a fill, how often to book one and how our maintenance windows work at Brazilian Lash Studio Beauty in Richmond.

What happens during a lash fill

A fill starts with a gentle cleaning to remove oil, makeup and dust. Then your artist checks each natural lash. Extensions that have grown out too far are removed, because they can twist and pull on the natural lash.

Next, new extensions are added where natural lashes have shed or new lashes have grown in. The goal is to bring the set back to the same fullness and shape you had after your first application.

Why two to three weeks is the sweet spot

Most people lose a noticeable number of extensions by the second or third week. Booking in that window means there are still plenty of extensions to build on, so the fill is quicker and the set looks consistent.

If you wait too long, so many extensions have shed that the artist is basically starting over. That takes about the same time as a new set, which is why it is priced like one.

How our maintenance windows work

At Brazilian Lash Studio Beauty maintenance is priced by time since your last appointment. Up to 14 days is the lowest price. From 15 to 21 days is the middle price. From day 22 on, it becomes a new application at the full set price.

Here are a few real examples from our menu. Classic: $60 up to 14 days, $80 from 15 to 21 days, $120 from day 22. Brazilian Volume: $65 and $85, then $130. Mega Brazilian Volume: $70 and $90, then $140. Wet Look: $70 and $90, then $135. Elegant Volume: $75 and $95, then $145.

Styles that do not have maintenance

Some techniques are designed as a complete look and are not refilled. At our studio Capping 30+ ($150) and Mega Fox ($145) do not have a maintenance option. A new application is recommended when there is significant shedding.

If you prefer a style you can refresh every couple of weeks, classic, volume, wet look and fox eye sets are better choices.

Tips to stretch the time between fills

Clean your lashes every few days with a lash safe cleanser. Brush them every morning. Avoid oil based products near your eyes and do not rub or pull your lashes.

Sleeping on your back and using a smooth pillowcase also helps. These habits will not stop natural shedding, but they help the extensions you have stay on longer and look neater.

Plan your next appointment before you leave

The easiest way to stay inside the best maintenance window is to book your next fill at the end of each appointment. That way you get the time you want and never have to start over.

To book, choose your service and preferred day online. Appointments are confirmed with a 30% deposit by Venmo or Zelle, and your time is reserved until the end of the day while the deposit is sent.
